Bath Road Site - development complete

October 2006

It started in 1903 when Mr Arthur Timson moved the company from a shop with an upstairs workshop to a purpose built factory just one mile from the centre of Kettering. In 1916 a major extension included a 4 storey office/factory unit with single storey area for parts manufacturing and machine assembly. A nearby factory unit was purchased and a further new fitting shop was added in the 1970's. The acquisition of the terraced houses between the two buildings completed the site. Development began in 1988 with the building of the first phase combining a two storey office block with a modern press assembly area. This was further extended in 1994 effectively doubling the office accommodation and assembly facilities. 1996 marked the addition of the R&D block and a further extension of the assembly area followed in 2004.

The redevelopment of the site was completed earlier this year with the opening of almost 1,000 square metres of additional press assembly space with increased headroom to permit the building of the new range of four colour presses.

September 2006

Stephen Brice, secretary to the Queen’s Award Office and David Moore, secretary to the Prime Minister’s Advisory Committee, visited Timsons during a tour to evaluate the impact the award has on business, and to encourage more companies to enter for the awards.

This is our first Queen’s Award for Innovation (for the ZMR press), following the granting of Awards in 1992 and 2002 for achievements in international trade. In the last month, orders worth several million dollars have been received for ZMR presses.
